McDonaldization of Nigerian Banking Industry in the Post-Consolidated Era : An Exploration of the Unavoidable Consequences
The article explores the McDonaldization of Banking operation in Nigeria. It provides a critical analysis of the rationalization process in light of a developing economy by drawing on Ritzer's McDonaldization Thesis to analyse the Nigerian banking system in the post-consolidated period. The article argues that the rationalization of the banking system has generated some benefits. However, the increasing negative impacts of this McDonaldization process such as excess spending by the customers, use of customers as workers without payment, crimes ochestratred by increasing techno-based banking, etc, outweigh the benefits. The article reveals the implications of these irrationalities of rationality, and concludes by providing some remedies
