Microcomputers in British local authority planning departments

A review of microcomputer use in British local authority planning departments is presented. The changing context of the local government computing climate is briefly described, hardware trends and influences are examined, and an overview of software and application areas is provided. A discussion of issues and lessons learned (technical and organisational) is presented and some thoughts on future issues and factors affecting development are given at the end of the paper.
