Mno2 Films Deposited on Cuo Nanomaterials as Electrode Materials for Supercapacitors

In this paper, CuO/MnO2 nanocomposites were successfully fabricated by simple and economical electrodeposition and successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method as electrode materials for supercapacitors (SCs). Spherical and wheat-shaped CuO nanomaterials were obtained by changing the deposition voltage, and MnO2 thin films were coated on the surfaces of different morphological CuO nanomaterials via SILAR method. The electrochemical measurement results indicate that the CuO/MnO2 composite electrodes delivers excellent areal capacitance and capacitance retention in 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte. And the areal capacitance of the wheat-shaped CuO/MnO2 composite electrodes is superior to that of the spherical, meanwhile, the capacitance retention of wheat-shaped CuO/MnO2 composite electrodes (90%) is higher than that of spherical (82.3%) after 1000 consecutive cycles. Our results show that the morphology of the electrode material has a certain effect on its electrochemical performance. Finally, a symmetric aqueous SCs was assembled by using wheat-shaped CuO/MnO2 composites as electrodes. The SCs has a high specific capacitance of 152.7 mF/cm2 at the current density of 1 mA/cm2 and a capacitance retention of 74.2% after 500 cycles. It also shows outstanding energy density (54.3 μWh·cm-2 ) and power density (5040 μW·cm-2 ).
