The study examines multi-level marketing in the light of current EU legislation on unfair competition. Taking as a reference point the ECJ C-515/12 decision, the study addresses the issue whether this particular sales promotion mechanism should fall within the scope of Directive 2005/29/EC, which is also linked to the question whether the individuals involved in the operation of the aforementioned mechanism can be regarded as consumers
