Multi-Objective Optimal Sizing of Hybrid Micro-Grid System Using Pso-De-Fuzzy Technique

An optimal sizing model for an off-grid hybrid micro-grid system (HMGS) consisting of solar photovoltaic (PV), wind turbine (WT), diesel generator (DG) and battery (BAT) is developed. A tri-objective formulation, considering techno-socio-economic factors, is employed for finding the optimal sizes and configurations of HMGS. For solving this mixed integer programming problem with time coupled constraints, dynamic search space is employed with hybrid PSO-DE algorithm, to improve the search efficiency. The algorithm is constructed using improved versions of PSO and DE. The idea behind the hybridization of these two popular paradigms is to deploy the higher exploration capability of the PSO during the initial search and then employ the fast convergence property of the DE to achieve an optimal solution through exploitation. A fuzzy attainment module (FAM) is appended into the algorithm to identify the best solution based on the highest possible attainment level for all objectives. Two dispatch strategies for battery charging and their effect on emission curtailment is studied. Impact of selection of objective(s) on optimal sizing is analysed. The inter relation between the three objectives for different configurations is found and Pareto-optimal solutions which offer multiple trade-off choices in a wide range are obtained
