Negative Ethnicity, Identity and Political Corruption : A Kenyan Perspective

This study is about the question of negative ethnicity, identity and corruption in Kenya. The role of ethnicity in shaping identity in Kenya has been both negative and positive. Ethnic rivalry in Kenya is old as the history of the nation. Historically in Kenya, the region that controls political power also control most of state resources in form of key government appointments and having access to better infrastructure. The resulting intra-ethnic and inter-ethnic variations in access to political and socio-economic power have in turn sustained deep-seated ethnic grievances and hatred. The distribution of burdens and benefits in the citizenry has been one of the greatest undoing of the political leadership since it has tended to entrench ethnic chauvinism
