Organizations of the Future : Overcoming Dilated Asynchronous Intraorganizational Communication
The development of new energy sources and high-velocity systems will inevitably create disruptive problems in all aspects of society. This paper defines the problem of dilated asynchronous intraorganizational communication (DAIC)1 and proposes potential solutions from current management research. While the problem is unprecedented in both life and scholarship, this paper notes its similarities with COVID-19’s impact on society. As such, focusing on managing intellectual capital, precautionary innovation and digitalization, and fluid work are posited as possible organizational strategies for overcoming DAIC. Similarly, this paper explores tactical negotiation training and encourages the use of the Farpoint Gambit, contingency contracts, and negotiating on neutral turf. These proposed solutions are not meant to be exhaustive, but instead to serve as the foundation for future managers coping with this novel problem. Appendix A provides an intuitive explanation of the problem and Appendix B illustrates an example used throughout the paper
