Overtime and employment creation in manufacturing industries : issues, constraints and policies

According to the author, in countries like Bangladesh with an acute unemployment problem and sluggish growth of the economy, extensive use of overtime employment can reduce the impact of employment, he (the author) examines the use of overtime in some selected private manufactoring enterprises of Bangladesh in mid-1987. He presents empirical estimates of the inter-industry cross-sectional relationship between overtime hours and the ratio of fixed labour costs to the overtime wage rate. (DÜI-Sen)
