Plasma-Assisted Cu/Uio-66-Nh2 for Reforming of Ch4 and Co2 into C2+ Liquid Chemicals

The direct conversion of CO2 and CH4 into liquid products is a meaningful process but full of challenges, especially for tuning the liquid product distribution. Here, Cu and amino group functionalized metal-organic frameworks catalyst (Cu/UiO-66-NH2 ) were designed for a one-step synthesis of liquid fuels and chemicals (e.g. methanol, ethanol, acetone) in a self-designed DBD reactor with circulating water electrodes. Cu increases the electron densisty of amino groups (Lewis base), providing strong interaction with CO2 for the CO2 reduction and subsequent active oxygen species generation. While Cu can promote C-C coupling for C2+ liquid products reducing gas by-product generation (e.g. CO). Benefiting from the synergistic effect of amino/Cu co-functionalized catalysts and Non-thermal plasma, the total selectivity to oxygenates was approximately 48.4%, wherein the main products were methanol and ethanol rather than conventional acetic acid. The selectivity of ethanol came to 17.8%, with a rise of 119% when compared with no catalyst.
