Porter Hypothesis : A critical evaluation of the empirical evidence

The Porter Hypothesis is a well-established economic theory linking strict environmental regulations to competitiveness. Since its inception, its validity has been extensively debated, making this concept a somewhat controversial and possibly misunderstood subject. These misconceptions might be due to the existence of at least three recognised variants of the Porter Hypothesis, with different underlying implications. A critical analysis of the empirical literature related to this theory shows that some elements are indeed well supported while other aspects lack conclusive evidence
