Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV Program in Tanzania : Service Delivery and Uptake Constraints

Each year more infants are infected with HIV, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa and mostly due to mother-to-child, or “vertical” transmission. Advances in ART made the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV affordable in sub-Saharan Africa and other resource-constrained settings. However, Implementation of PMTCT programs has been facing many challenges, thus affecting uptake of PMTCT services especially in rural areas. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the health system constraints facing PMTCT service delivery and uptake in Tanzania at Individual, Household, community and National levels using the constraints Analysis Framework and suggest the way forward
