Productivity Measurement of Airports in Brazil : An Application of DEA Approach and Malmquist Index Decomposition

At present, there is no accepted industry practice for measuring and comparing airport performance in a consistent and systematic manner. In many other industries including the airline industry, standard methods for measuring and comparing performances have been widely adopted (Oum, Yu and Fu, 2003, p. 286). The objective of this paper is to provide a meaningful comparison of Brazilian international and domestic airports productivity performance; I adopted the Griffel-Tatj and Lovell (1997) approach to the use of BCC DEA Model with panel data to construct a Malmquist index of productivity change. To accomplish this objective, I have conducted a deep evaluation on 61 airports taking their performance measures and resources values within a periond of 6 years, from 2002 and 2007
