Proliferation of regional groupings : Policy options for the OIC
The author discusses the notions of regionalism and globalism - which are by no means the two sides of the same coin - and the relations between them. He analyses economic regionalism among developing countries and explains why its performance is not impressive. Accordingly, he proposes policy options for the OIC countries, arguing "in favour of an outward-looking, cost-effective, low-profile, informal arrangement". If the D-8 economic co-operation will be successful, it can be extended eventually to all the other OIC members. (DÜI-Cls)
