Quelles perspectives pour l'agriculture des régions marginalisées par la mondialisation ? L'exemple du Vanuatu (Mélanésie)

Facing international competition, the Vanuatu export agricultural sector is in rapid decline. While most of the attention is being focused on classical commodities (copra, cocoa), local products are neglected, and so is the local market. Vanuatu farmers do not feed indeed the growing urban population. The cost of food imports therefore locks the country in a situation of economic dependency while the rural areas are being increasingly marginalized. However, as we will argue, the country could draw benefits from specific local products (among which root crops and kava), both for export and domestic consumption.
