RBS reshapes its long‐term future : Leadership development at the heart of the Group's long term recovery plan
Purpose – This article aims to review the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoint practical implications from cutting‐edge research and case studies. Design/methodology/approach – The briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context. Findings – The reputation of the Royal Bank of Scotland – one of the world's leading financial institutions – suffered catastrophically as a result of its ill‐judged acquisition of Dutch bank ABN AMRO and the wider implications of the global financial crisis. What had been seen as a stellar institution had to be baled out by the UK government, and its disgraced CEO, Sir Fred Goodwin, became the target of public outrage. Practical implications – The article provides strategic insights and practical thinking that have influenced some of the world's leading organizations. Originality/value – The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy‐to‐digest format.
