(Re)Sharping of Competition Policy and State Aid Control: Case of Serbia in Comparable Perspective

The main task of competition policy is to ensure and preserve the functionality of the market by providing equal business conditions and equal opportunities for the success to all market participants. A prerequisite to satisfactory results in this field is institutionally defined and completed policy course of action. The adoption of appropriate legislation is the starting point for designing and building effective competition policy. In this sense, the chapter points out a link between the degree of development of institutional capacities and policy effectiveness. In addition, state aid control is extremely important part of competition policy within the European Union (EU), which is becoming increasingly important in countries which are candidate for the EU membership. The achieved results in building a system of state aid control in Serbia are evaluated through a comparative analysis with good European practice and practice in Croatia.
