Reciprocity of General Competency - Based Education and Lifelong Learning as a Landscaping Scheme to Senior High School Curriculum

The Department of Education has in the past years been working towards the implementation of the K-12 program that is designed to “provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. The purpose of the study is to determine the relationship between general competency-based teaching to lifelong learning as a landscaping scheme to Senior High School Curriculum. The independent variable is competency-based learning, with lifelong learning as the dependent variable. The research utilized a simple descriptive method with triangulation on competency based teaching, lifelong learning and the landscaping scheme of the senior high school curriculum of Bulacan State University. The survey instrument used in this study was a checklist of the competencies in Filipino, English and Research based on the Minimum Learning Competencies of the Department of Education that is a product of a national collaboration involving seventeen Regions of the country. The significant correlation between competency-based teaching to lifelong learning and landscaping scheme is revealed at .01 level of significance. In the same manner, lifelong learning registered a positive correlation to landscaping scheme. The respondents perceived that the competencies in English, Filipino and Research be geared towards lifelong learning indicators which could be the scheme of landscaping the Senior High School Curriculum
