Report of the workshop on the environmental determinants of childhood and adolescent cancer : addressing challenges in the field of environment and paediatric cancer research

Children and adolescent cancers are rare and their aetiological connection to the environmental is poorly understood. In October 2023, the European Commission hosted a workshop addressing the environmental determinants of paediatric cancer. Experts discussed the evidence linking environmental factors to paediatric cancer and identified areas that require careful attention in the future. Notably, the workshop emphasized the importance of data harmonisation and improving cancer patient registries to streamline research efforts. Future research should include more longitudinal studies, combined exposure approaches and enhance cross-border and multidisciplinary cooperation.
