Roll-Bonding of Mg and Al Plates Assisted by Cold Spraying Micro Particle Interlayer
A new process of “cold spraying interlayer + roll-bonding” (CSIR)for preparation of metal clad plates was put forward. Firstly, micro-Ni particles were cold sprayed to form an ultra-thin coating between two substrate slabs. Then the elongation and bonding of Mg and Al substrate slabs and intermediate coating were promoted by rolling at 400℃. The tensile shear stress of the Mg/Al clad plate assisted by cold spraying Al and Ni micro particles interlayer on substrate slabs was nearly twice that of conventional rolling under the same conditions(35MPa,reduction was 35%). The tensile strength by the CSIR in rolling direction was higher than that by conventional rolling, and the difference of tensile strengths between transverse and rolling directions was reduced. The mechanical embedding of Ni micro particles and the Ni-Al compound were the phases to strengthen Mg/Al clad plate. The preparation of micro granular interface layer by cold spraying process could overcome the process problem of the agglomeration and falling off of micro particles and avoid the disadvantage of uncoordinated rolling deformation between substrate slab and coating. It is a preparation process of the micro interlayer with good operability and application prospect
