Rural social policy in a strategy of sustained development

The article discusses the changes observed during recent years in the social, demographic and occupational structures in rural areas in Latin American countries, which foreshadow severe imbalances for the prospects of economic development that arise from the present crisis. It advances the thesis that in most countries of the region the problems of the peasantry and the achievement of a higher degree of equity for the rural society require urgent solutions
