Scriptures and its Inheritance by Judiciary in Indian Environmental Jurisprudence

India is the largest democratic country in the world. All the three wings of government play a vital role in the development of the nation. It is the proper coordination among the wings of government which has helped in growth and smooth functioning of the government. However, it would not be unjust to say that the act of judiciary as a watchdog, as a facilitator and as a guardian of the nation is truly commendable. The Indian judiciary has worked beyond their imagination. And, one such commendable work of judiciary is preservation of our ancient scriptures and using its applicability in process of Indian Environmental Jurisprudence.Scriptures of mankind is a malady for all kinds of panacea existing in the society. It incorporates within itself the concept of self-preservation, self-perseverance and self-regulation. It is really an interesting anecdote to identify as to how judiciary has used the mythological scriptures in understanding the existing problem of the environment and at the same time showing polluters, the direction to get rid of such problem. This paper highlights the vast knowledge incorporated under the meaning of term “scriptures” and also, how judiciary has used this concept in doing justice to the Indian Environmental Jurisprudence
