Selection of Construction Equipment Supplier Using Analytical Hierarchy Process

Planning, selection and operation of various construction equipment are vital in construction. Many a time, contractor firms need to buy these construction equipment. In a typical buying process, contracting firms need to select an appropriate supplier who can supply the required type of construction equipment. Supplier selection for purchasing equipment is a time-consuming process, which needs significant data exploitation. The procedure for provider determination is a multi-criteria decision-making problem with conflicting opinions. The paper presents a systematic methodology for the selection of construction equipment suppliers. An Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) has been used to develop a model and draw decisions. The model helps construction managers to practice their insight, instinct and expert judgment while selecting construction equipment supplier.
