Self-Recognizing Developmental Systems in Economics

We propose a rigorous framework to apply ideas from developmental biology to economics. This framework for the analogical transfer of developmental structures, which we call developmental economics, arises from general considerations about self-replication and self-recognition in biological systems, as adapted to social and economic systems. We focus on specific developmental structures from biology that are significant in microeconomics and to the study of regeneration mechanisms for companies and business clusters. We explore the complex relation of monopoly and regeneration and analyze the impact of antitrust regulations on the development of economic systems. We apply these ideas to case studies from the Japanese economy and in particular to the case of data monopolies. We further address how economic systems can respond to external damage with specific endogenous strategies that foster regeneration
