Short-term isochronous stability study of contaminants of emerging concern in environmental water samples
The report addresses the issue of short-term stability of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in the framework of environmental survey using the so-called isochronous stability test design. A novel on-site sampling device, developed in-house by JRC, was used for environmental water samples collection, allowing compounds stabilitation on solid phase extraction disks. The statistical evaluation of analytical measurements, performed according to the defined isochronous scheme and under repeatability conditions (i.e.: in one single analytical run), proofed that the device can be used for a multi-residual sampling strategy for CECs . The feasibility of the isochronous stability test design to investigate stability of water samples, together with the advantages of on-site sample processing represent valuable improvements in the execution of environmental monitoring campaigns both in support to European Water Framework Directive (WFD) and to the characterization of alternative practices for water reuse opportunities.
