Simple and Complex Models in Science
The claim that a simple model can outperform a complex one is investigated on general system-theoretic grounds. After an extended discussion of what the terms ``simple,'' ``complex,'' and ``perform'' might mean in systems terms, the conclusion is that the claim {\it might be true}.
