Some notes on parallel computing: with special reference to transportation and land-use modeling

As a response to the suggestions of D E Boyce in a recent editorial in this journal these notes explore the use of supercomputers in the application of land-use and transportation models. Several models are tested in a preliminary way but in some detail against several possible configurations of parallel computers.
