Student Satisfaction Survey in an Engineering College in India - A Case Study

Though most of the engineering colleges in India periodically collect student feedback on class room teaching, there is little understanding of how to use and how to act upon such data. This Paper reports the results of a survey conducted in an engineering college with the objective of capturing level of students' satisfaction with teaching inputs, library facilities and computing facilities. The survey based on Student Satisfaction Approach (SSA) was administered to groups of undergraduate students belonging to different disciplines of study. Areas of concern which needed the immediate attention of the College Management were identified. The study indicated various levels of students' perceptions pertaining to : areas of "importance" and "satisfaction". Based on the performance gap in the dimensions of the facilities being studied, priority ranks were given for further action by the Management. The study revealed that there was scope to improve certain aspects and services, such as: offering wide range of elective courses and freedom to choose electives; making available multiple copies of standard books in the library; affordable and quality reprographic facilities and reliable LAN and computing facilities
