Study on mitigation of climate impacts of possible future shale gas extraction in the EU - available technologies, best practices and options for policy makers : final report, April 2014

This study is aimed at developing a list of potential policy options for minimising on-site fugitive greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during shale gas exploration and production in the EU, and evaluating their climate, environmental and economic impacts. The specific objectives of the study are to analyse international experiences in minimising on-site fugitive GHG emissions to identify lessons and best practices; to provide an overview of the most advanced technologies and practices that could be promoted or enforced for minimizing these emissions; to provide an overview of different policy options for a possible regulatory framework for minimizing these emissions and to analyse the climate, environmental and economic impacts of key policy options.
