Study on mission-oriented R&I : food system microbiomes : final report

This is one of a series of simulation studies developed to support mission-oriented research and innovation policy at EU level. The study aims to outline the options for how a science-driven mission - in this case of food system microbiomes - could be designed, managed and implemented during the next decade. Whereas recent technological advances have allowed for a gradual exploration of the application potential of the microbial world, new opportunities for beneficial use are emerging throughout the agri-food value chain. The complexity of the topic and the need for novel tools, techniques and methods require (1) large-scale, cross-sectorial and multi-actor collaboration to gather knowledge, and (2) feedback loops between research and innovation to test the application potential.
