Subgroup Perceptions, Conflict, and Team Learning

In this study, we investigated the relationship between subgroup perceptions and types of team learning and explored the mediating role of task and relationship conflict. We hypothesized and found that perceptions of subgroups negatively influenced learning about the task and learning about work processes. Perceptions of subgroups did not affect learning about social relationships. The negative relationship between subgroup perceptions and task and process learning was mostly due to increased levels of relationship conflict and partly due to increased levels of task conflict
