Sustaining Producers Collective Action in Rice Value Chain in Tanzania

The paper aims to analyses rice producers’ collective actions at Iringa rural in Tanzania. Collective actions in agriculture improve access to inputs, productivity, and marketing of the produce. This paper adopted a cross-sectional design where was used to unveil key issues on how rice producer collective actions can be sustained. Seven rice irrigation schemes were purposively sampled in Iringa Rural. Data was collected through Focus Group Discussion where 100 producers were reached. The study findings indicate producer collective actions during productions, storage and marketing of paddy and rice. However, sustainability of the actions is questionable in the sense the groups are formed and operates. To sustain producers’ collective action, the study recommends developing sustainability framework and financing mechanism of the producers’ organization. The paper suggests an approach that could be used in establishing functional producers’ groups that can improve productivity in the rice value chain
