This paper aims to investigate the impacts of technological innovations in banking firms. In particular, it aims to explore some strategic and operating issues concerning the production and distribution processes of banking instruments and services. The first section of this paper describes the modularity of information and telecommunication technologies. The second section aims to examine the organizational implications of modularity and the adoption of internet-based and intranet-based technologies. Finally, the paper analyses the strategic role of internet-based technologies and company image in banking communication processes
