The Application of Geographical Information Systems to Multinational Finance Corporations

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are decision support tools that capture, store and analyze spatial data (i.e. geographically referenced data)and help decision makers to relate different type of data in a spatial context and to reach a conclusion about this relationship. Traditionally, GIS technology has been frequently applied in disciplines such as surveying and land analysis. The research examines the possibility of implementing a GIS in Multinational Corporations (MNC) to help analyze multinational financing issues. In other words, this study removes GIS technology from its usual context, and applies it to the financial domain of MNC. Our results shows that each multinational's responses, with regards to implementation areas and design features differed. Furthermore, it was clear that these differences can be attributed to the industry in which the multinational operates, as well as the features that are characteristic of each multinational
