The Boundaries of the Firm—A Question of Interpretation?

The boundaries of a firm determine the range of authority of the managers of the firm and of any outsiders who interact with the firm. Determining where the boundaries lie is even in theory a matter of some debate. However, in practice understanding where the boundaries of a firm lie is a matter of interpretation and managers need to consider alternative interpretations which they and others might make in any specific situation.
