The Deprivation of Street Children in Kampala : Can the Capability Approach and Participatory Methods Unlock a New Perspective in Research and Decision Making ?

Children are no longer seen merely as recipients of services or beneficiaries of protective measures, but rather as subjects of rights and participants in actions affecting them. This implies a change in the approach also towards vulnerable children in research and decision making. The aim of this paper is to explore the deprivation of street children in Kampala (Uganda), through the innovative combination of the A. Sen?s capability approach and participatory methods.
