The Geneva Conventions in Today’s World : An Examination of its Applicability

For centuries man has fought wars, bringing pain and tears upon itself. The ugliness of this endeavor is one which has been acknowledged in different fora even by those who have not participated in or experienced one. This reality has led to diverse machineries being put in place to ameliorate the cruelty which war births. This essay focuses on one of such machineries. It seeks to determine of the applicability of the Geneva Conventions as a means of ‘softening’ the impact of both inter – state and intra – state war situations on the combatants; as it is part of the theses of the essay that they too are victims of the ugliness
