The Gini Index and the Measurement of Multidimensional Inequality.
In a recent article, R. M. Bradburd and D. R. Ross (1988) suggested a new index of multidimensional inequality, derived from the chi-square statistic used with contingency tables, to measure the extent to which one multidimensional characterization differs from another. In this note, it is shown that the Gini index may also be used to measure such a heterogeneity. The advantage of such an approach is that it may be given a graphical representation.
