The Influence of Science on Economic Development: (A Critical Survey of the Methodology of Calculation)

It is an indisputable truth that today the influence of science on economic growth has immeasurably increased. As noted at the Twenty-Fourth Congress of the CPSU, the revolution in science and technology is exerting an ever greater influence on social production. It "opens up opportunities for the radical transformation of production methods, for the creation of basically new, highly productive implements of labor and of progressive materials; gives birth to new branches; and provides unprecedented opportunities for increasing the effectiveness of all productive activity." Modern science is the basis of these changes in production. During the years of the Eighth Five-Year Plan, expenditures on the development of science comprised an enormous sum - 41 billion rubles.
