The language and techniques of multiyear restructuring of sovereign debt : lessons from the Mexican experience

While many economists assume that the restructuring of sovereign external debt is a straightforward matter, there are many practical details that bankers must address in negotiating a new deal. This paper uses the actual problems of the Mexican restructuring as an example of the problems and issues of multiyear rescheduling. According to the author, the results achieved for this country can be used as a starting point for other debt restructuring discussions, at least from a technical point of view
