The Long-Term Effect of Poverty on Time Preference

This paper investigates the long-term effect of childhood poverty on time preference. Employing multiple waves of Indonesian Family Life Survey, this paper finds individuals who experienced poverty in childhood would be less patient measured 21 years later. Further analysis suggests education and caregivers’ time preference are mediators of the negative childhood poverty effect
