The Nuclear Norm and the Free-Form Family - Irreconcilable Paths in Swedish Family Law?

This chapter analyses trends in Swedish family law and policies, specifically the paradox between the relative freedom of individuals to start a family and choose forms of cohabitation on one hand, and the legal preference for the nuclear family on the other. Even though changes through legal reforms in areas such as assisted reproduction have occurred, the nuclear family norm still prevails and is even reproduced when twoness and romantic love, marriage and genetic parenthood are legally prioritised
