The Role of Finance : An Imperative for Actualizing a Profesionally Responsive Nigerian Army

The paper expounded the role of Finance in achieving the Vision of the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai of a “Professionally Responsive Nigerian Army in the Discharge of its Constitutional Roles”. Finance is a wheel keeping any form of organization rolling. In this Paper, it is established that the Professionalism, the level of Responsiveness required of the Nigerian Army and the speed at which the Army is expected to carry out its Constitutional roles significantly depends on adequate funding and welfare of the Personnel. Hence, Finance is a veritable tool in achieving the Army Chief's Vision. Without adequate funding the Army will be deflated despites its desire to dominant theatre fronts. The paper argued the possibility of troops being professionally responsive without being properly taken care of, because a hungry man is an angry man. When troops and their families are not properly catered for, required equipments and instruments are not adequately provided for them, professionalism will certainly be compromise leading to irresponsiveness. Therefore, the paper called for adequate funding of the Military to enable the Services meets Personnel needs, welfare, structural and equipment requirements to remain indomitable. On this note, Finance and Funding of the Army should be of top priority of the Federal Government and concern Nigerians especially at this challenging time in our history as a Nation
