The Role of Rewards in Enhancing Employees’ Creativity : The Moderating Role of Goal Orientations and Locus of Control

Employees’ creativity is perceived as an essential success factor for organizations in today’s challenging global business environment, which drives practitioners to implement reward systems in an attempt to enhance employees creativity. However, previous studies in the literature have investigated the relationship between rewards and employees’ creativity and yielded different results, which led to the importance of studying conditions under which rewards enhance employees creativity. Studies that consider such conditions remain largely sparse. Furthermore, the potential that personality traits may moderate the function of rewards towards employees creativity remains an underresearched area. This paper aims to shed the light on personality traits that have not been previously investigated such as employees’ goal orientations and locus of control. The paper then presents the research hypotheses intended to be investigated along with the supporting arguments from the literature. It finally presents the proposed conceptual model
