Theorizing simple commodity production in Papua New Guinea

The paper makes a critical synthesis of the different theoretical approaches relevant to simple commodity production and to the transformation of subsistence agriculture in Papua New Guinea. It is pointed out that although subsistence agriculture has been, and to a large extent still is, the economic base of the country, it is rapidly changing and becoming intermeshed with the cash economy.
