Transients’ effects on the reliability of programmable electronics

Programmable electronics are particularly susceptible to transients, a form of electromagnetic interference. The widespread use of programmable electronics in many mass‐produced products, industrial systems and safety‐critical applications is a cause for concern over their reliability. Neglecting transients’ effect in the initial product specification stage increases significantly the possibility of having to redesign a product late in its development cycle, with all its serious consequences.
