Turbulence and Change in the Pacific
Heather Wallace discuss a range of issues common to many Pacific Island countries with particular reference being made to Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. She looks at the responses of communities, governments and NGOs to competing development pressures and highlights some of the initiatives taken at the local level to address ‘sustainable development’ issues. She suggests possible strategies and approaches that can be used to address changing dynamics in societies while remaining focused on meeting the needs of the community.
