Unintended Order and Self-Organization in the Evolutionary Social Theory of Friedrich Hayek

Hayek thought that the origins of composite social structures, including the economy is among the great unanswered questions of social science. These structures are the result of the beliefs and actions of the multitude and do not follow a single purposeful design. Their non-designed structures, that is, their reliance on the unintendedness of the overall outcome of countless individual actions, makes the Hayekian approach to the origins of social order akin to the complex adaptive systems of the natural world
