Updating EU combined transport data : final report

The present update of EU combined transport (CT) data by ISL and KombiConsult was conducted in a two-stage process. First, data was collected and calibrated for each CT sector (rail/road, inland waterway/road and shortsea/road) individually. The data collection included official statistics, other secondary sources such as industry associations or river commissions, and a survey among operators. The data collected includes total volumes in TEU, tonnes and tonne-km, but also information on the distribution of non-road and road distances. In a second step, the share of CT operations involving more than two modes (particularly shortsea/rail and shortsea/inland waterway) was estimated.
