Using MORT as an OD Tool

This article presents the potential of three aspects of the Management Oversight and Risk Tree (MORT) technology as OD tools for use in most industries, but especially for use in high technology and/or manufacturing environments. It is imperative to the understanding of some of the positions taken in this paper that a definition of organization development be set forward. The definition used in this article is taken essentially from Lawrence and Lorsch: Organization Development—An attempt to find ways to change the organization from its current state to a better‐developed state . Given this definition, the link between the MORT technology and OD is found in the basic concept of organizational change.
