Visual disability, learning and education ‐ a practical approach

This article considers a case study involving a disabled student and a university in the North of England. The recent UK Disability Discrimination Act 1995 is considered briefly. The implications for teaching, administrative and support staff are reviewed and practical approaches to accommodate the student and teaching staff involved are outlined including details of learning resources. A model of best practice is proposed and finally, sources of additional information are listed. The issues and solutions outlined in this article are clearly also applicable to training and development professionals in terms of running courses and workshops for employees with disabilities.
